Linneo taps into Electricity provided by Spanish national grid generated by renewable sources
Sustainable mobility ‘car share’ programme and water consumption reduction initiatives launched
Programme expected to reduce Company’s carbon emissions by more than 60% in first year

Madrid, Spain, 26 September 2023:Ā Linneo Health, a global leader in the research, cultivation and supply of cannabis to improve human health and wellbeing, today announces a major carbon reduction programme as part of its strategy to minimise the impact of the Companyā€™s operations on the environment and improve sustainability practices. The programme aims to reduce Linneoā€™s carbon footprint by more than 60% in the first year.

Recognising that energy use is one of the biggest environmental issues of concern within the cannabis industry, Linneo has invested significantly in the local energy infrastructure at its European operations centre and cultivation facilities, strengthening its connection to Spainā€™s national electricity network, providing access to electricity generated from renewable sources, essentially eliminating the Companyā€™s reliance on industrial, on-site generators.

Strategically situated in Southern Spain, one of the warmest and sunniest regions of Europe, there is already a reduced need by Linneo for the use of artificial heating and lighting compared to other cultivators in the industry. The Company capitalises on this further by deploying automated systems to trap heat from the sun when it is needed, to shade plants when the sun is at its highest and extending daylight hours in its greenhouse facilities to reduce energy use.

Juana MarĆa MartĆnez GarcĆa, Mayoress of Fuente Ɓlamo, commented: ā€œMaintaining our local environment is extremely important to us at Fuente Ɓlamo as it directly affects the quality of life of our citizens. We are proud to be home to a company like Linneo which aligns with our environmental priorities. The companyā€™s comprehensive efforts to mitigate carbon emissions and its engagement with local authorities to embrace environmentally conscious solutions, illustrate that responsible business practices can go hand in hand with economic growth and success.ā€

Don Bellamy, Chief Executive Officer of Linneo Health, said: ā€œCustomers and patients are, rightly, demanding greater environmental stewardship from companies and we are very proud at Linneo to be putting sustainable business practices at the heart of our operations.

ā€œOver the past 12 months Linneo has been searching for ways to further improve our sustainability practices and to set the standard among global cannabis producers. We are already taking advantage of our geography, which enables us to minimise artificial lighting and heating and have introduced hydroponic systems in our greenhouses to ensure weā€™re only using the water we need. In partnership with a local waste management company, we provide them with our waste material which can be used to create biogas.

ā€œWe want to set a new standard for sustainability in our industry. Our industryā€™s energy impact is considerable and so we must be bold in our environmental commitments.ā€

Furthering its mission to reduce its carbon footprint, Linneo is also piloting a sustainable mobility ā€˜car shareā€™ programme aimed at reducing the number of cars linked to its facilities. And, as part of its broader environmental impact strategy, the Companyā€™s ongoing water reduction programme, which includes precision irrigation in Linneoā€™s greenhouses, has launched further water-efficient initiatives encouraging employees to reduce their water usage at work. All elements of the strategy will be monitored on an annual basis as the Company introduces further environmental initiatives.
